Czechia appoints new manager: Santi Denia
Spanish coach Santi Denia has officially taken over as manager of the Czech national team. His contract is for two years with an option, making him the first foreigner in history to lead the Czech squad. His primary goal is to improve performance and secure qualification for EURO 2028. Currently, Czechia sits 4th in the World Cup group with 1 point (0W-1D-2L) and a goal difference of -4.
How was the appointment process?
The search for a new manager took over 30 days, but Denia was ultimately chosen. His appointment was confirmed after intense negotiations held in New York and Prague. Denia was selected for his communication skills and modern coaching approach. The team's last result was a 0-3 loss to Mexico (2026-06-25).
Future plans
Denia aims to enhance the team's performance and focus on details. One key topic is the potential return of Patrik Schick, who announced his retirement from international football after the World Cup. „We will discuss this. I want him,“ said Denia. The team is preparing for their next match against Croatia (26 September 2026).
What do they say about the new manager?
According to FAČR president David Trunda, Denia is hardworking and communicative. „He was a very hardworking player and is equally hardworking as a coach. Additionally, he is excellent at external communication,“ added Trunda. Denia will learn Czech and collaborate with a mix of Spanish and Czech experts.
