The engagement of a foreign coach at the Czech national team is becoming a reality. On Friday afternoon, Santi Denia officially took over as head coach for a two-year term with an option for two more years. He has brought in Pablo Ama as his first assistant, a close colleague from their previous work together in Arabia. The new coaching staff aims to build on the team's strengths and improve its performance after the disappointing World Cup.
How Will He Get Familiar with Czech Football?
Denia plans to immerse himself in Czech football by attending matches and speaking with coaches. 'We will see Spartak playing against Zlin today,' he joked, referring to the match that would take place on Friday afternoon. 'The most important thing is to watch the games, observe the players, and get involved in Chance League. Most of our representatives play here. We want to visit stadiums across the republic and meet with coaches. For me, this could be one of the most beautiful days of my career. It's a great honor and privilege to join this project,' Denia said during his Friday press conference where he officially presented himself in his new role.
What Changes Will He Make?
Denia does not plan any major changes but rather aims to build on the work done by previous coaches. 'Czech football has an excellent past, passionate fans, and talented players. There is great potential here,' Denia stated. 'We will create an environment where we support each other, respect one another, and move forward together towards success. The best teams are not just a group of talented players but a family. That will be our main principle. We need the players and people around the team to feel like they belong here. We also need to constantly improve. I have respect for the previous coaches of the Czech national team; they achieved great things, qualified for the World Cup. We don’t want to make any revolutions or turn everything upside down. Our plan is to work with scouts, find the right players, and take it step by step. At the highest level where the Czech national team operates, there are differences in details. That’s what we will focus on.'
