Czechia international footballers made their mark for their clubs across Europe over the past week. The standout moment was a goal from Pavel Šulc, who contributed to Olympique Lyon's victory in the Europa League. These individual successes are particularly important for the national team, which is currently enduring a difficult spell with zero wins and four defeats in its last four matches, including a 0:3 loss to England on 6 October.
Šulc came off the bench against Crystal Palace in the 70th minute and scored a quarter of an hour later to seal a 3:2 win for the French side.
Performances in the Bundesliga and Europa League
In Germany, Adam Hložek was active for Hoffenheim. He first played 59 minutes in a 2:3 Europa League loss to Beşiktaş. Three days later in the Bundesliga clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach, he started, provided an assist, and was substituted in the 78th minute of a 2:1 home win. Defender Robin Hranáč also played the full match. Veteran Vladimír Coufal completed both games for Hoffenheim, adding an assist in the European fixture.
He entered the 1:1 draw with Lillestrom in the 61st minute and received a yellow card. Lukas Ambros played 65 minutes for Anderlecht in a 0:1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
Domestic League Appearances
In the English Premier League, goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček had a tough night as Newcastle United lost 0:1 to Aston Villa. In the Polish Ekstraklasa, Ondrej Lingr had a brief and difficult return for Korona Kielce, being substituted as early as the 29th minute in a 1:6 defeat to Lech Poznań.
These club commitments come at a time when the Czech national team is searching for lost confidence. After four consecutive defeats, including a recent 0:3 loss to England, any positive performance from its players at club level is a welcome boost. The national team now faces an important friendly match at home against Spain on 12 November.
