The Czech Republic national football team played against South Korea in Mexico and lost 1:2. Marek Pilný, a member of the Czech fans' delegation, describes the atmosphere of the World Cup and the fans who accompanied him. "It would have been better if we won the match. But the World Cup, the atmosphere, the fans, and Mexico? That was a lifetime experience," he says. Pilný and his friends traveled to Mexico to watch the Czech team in action. "As soon as we landed in Guadalajara, it was clear that we were in a country where football is more than just a sport. Everywhere you looked, there were World Cup fans. People were wearing jerseys in shops, restaurants, and on the streets. It was everywhere," he recalls. Pilný and his friends stayed in the center of Guadalajara, just a few minutes' walk from the fan zone. The stadium where the Czechs played against South Korea was about 20 kilometers away. Hours before the match, the streets were filled with thousands of fans. "The city is huge. Finding a Czech was not easy," he says. Approximately three thousand Czech fans were almost lost in the sea of other fans, both on the streets and at the stadium. "But there were at least 15,000 Koreans," he says. The strongest impression, however, was not made during the Czech match. "The fan zone during the Brazil-Morocco match was incredible. Brazilians sang, danced, and celebrated from morning to evening. That was an atmosphere I will never forget," he recalls. The organization of the tournament also left a lasting impression on him. "There were countless volunteers. Everyone was smiling, helpful, and tried to assist. It all worked very well." He was also surprised by Mexico itself. On one hand, there were soldiers, armored vehicles, and strict security measures. On the other hand, there were friendly and welcoming people. "Sometimes you have different ideas about Mexico. Then you meet someone who looks like a character from Narcos, and they are one of the friendliest people you meet during your stay," he laughs. Pilný also talks about the match against South Korea. "I didn't have any big hopes before the match. The Koreans were faster, more technical, and more combative. They deserved to win." The most disappointing moment for him was the unacknowledged Czech goal. "Of course, the biggest emotions were during our goals. The shame of the second one that didn't count was huge. That was a big moment." As a long-time functionary, he sees the reasons for the defeat quite clearly. "We were not a threat in attack. We didn't hold the ball, we didn't win battles behind the goal, or headers. That's important for our game." Nevertheless, he does not criticize the team. "I don't blame the players. We should be happy with what we have. The guys fought and did their best." However, after the initial defeat, he believes that nothing is lost. The Czech team has upcoming matches and a chance to turn the situation around. "I still believe we will qualify from the group. Now, however, there's no other option but to win," he says optimistically. He will watch the next match against South Africa from home. "After a week in Mexico, I need a bit of a break. I believe we will win 2:0," he says.
